Organization Overview / Background

The Thames Valley Family Health Team (TVFHT) was established in 2007 and is the second-largest family health team in Ontario. TVFHT is one of 184 family health teams across the Province working towards a vision that all Ontarians will have timely access to high-quality, comprehensive team-based primary care in their local community. TVFHT serves approximately 25% of the population within London, and Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin Counties and provides services across nineteen sites.

TVFHT comprises over 115 physicians, and more than 140 staff members who provide care delivery to more than 158,000 patients. TVFHT is also the lead organization for the London Middlesex Health Link. The TVFHT comprises a group of interdisciplinary professionals working to improve the health and well-being of the 158,000 patients served through prevention, identification and management of disease. In partnership with participating physicians, the interdisciplinary team includes registered nurses, nurse practitioners, registered practical nurses, social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, psychologists and administrative staff.

Position / Responsibilities

The Board is seeking to recruit a passionate and collaborative leader who will support the Board in implementing the 2017-20 strategic directions for TVFHT and provide administrative leadership and day-to-day management of the organization. Reporting directly to the Board and working closely with an active and engaged Board of Directors and a team of over 140 dedicated staff, the Executive Director will communicate both the substance and importance of the organization’s mission to the public, government and strategic partners across the healthcare community and be the advocate, champion and resource leader for special projects and programs that will achieve the organization’s vision.

As an inspirational and inclusive organizational leader, the Executive Director will create a cohesive and unified team across the organization and bring highly visible leadership credentials and exceptional communication and relationship building skills to the role. As a strategic thinker, the Executive Director will have a good understanding of the current and future needs of primary care as they relate to the Thames Valley and South Western Ontario and the implementation of the Patients First Act, 2016. As an accomplished consensus builder and collaborator, the Executive Director will build strong partnerships and strategic alliances with funders, other primary care providers and community partners..

Candidate Requirements

The Executive Director will have a successful track record of six (6) or more years at the senior management level in health or public administration ideally within an integrated healthcare delivery model or primary care environment, and hold a graduate degree in health sciences, health or business administration or a related field, or a suitable combination of education and experience. The Executive Director will possess excellent communications, public relations and interpersonal skills as well as being able to demonstrate strong analytical and conceptual skills and an acumen for quality improvement. This includes broad base experience dealing with business, finance, information technology and human resources. The Executive Director will be an accomplished team builder and team leader who can bring out the best in all members of the team and foster a culture of success through teamwork. The Executive Director will also bring strong governance experience, collaborating with and reporting to a Board of Directors. Above all, the Executive Director will be an individual who has a passion for excellence in the provision of high quality accessible primary care for all patients and families.
