Whitchurch - Stouffville Public Library

Whitchurch- Stouffville Public Library (WSPL) is a tax-supported municipal public library dedicated to supporting lifelong learning and access to information, knowledge, and ideas to the citizens of the Town of Whitchurch- Stouffville. To assist with this mission, a new 30,000 square foot facility just opened in spring 2018.

The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville has a population of 46,000. The Library has a 2018 operating budget of $2 million and a staff of 8 full-time and 16 part-time employees.

Whitchurch–Stouffville is a municipality in the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada, approximately 50 kilometres north of downtown Toronto, and 55 kilometres north-east of Toronto Pearson International Airport It is 206.41 square kilometres in size, and located in the mid-eastern area of the Regional Municipality of York on the ecologically-sensitive Oak Ridges Moraine. Its motto since 1993 is "country close to the city". Between 2011 and 2016, the town grew 21.8%, making it the second fastest growing municipality in York Region. The number of private dwellings jumped from 7,642 in 2001 to 15,712 in 2016, with an average of 2.9 people per private dwelling. The town projects a total population of 55,800 by 2021, and 60,600 in 2031, with 97% of the growth within the urban boundaries of the Community of Stouffville.

Position / Responsibilities

The Whitchurch- Stouffville Public Library is currently seeking an experienced executive to provide leadership to a brand new library facility for a fast growing and diversified population.

Reporting to the Whitchurch- Stouffville Public Library Board, The Chief Executive Officer of the Library is responsible to the Board for the administration, organization, and planning of all library operations and services in accordance with policies established by the Library Board; He/ She advises the Board and makes recommendations concerning new policies and services; engages the Library’s stakeholder groups to implement the Business Plan; collaboratively creates a vision for the future and reflects the culture and character of the community; He/ She serves as the Board’s representative externally to the community, professional organizations, and government agencies and acts as a Secretary and Treasurer to the Board.

Candidate Requirements

The Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library requires their CEO to be a creative, visionary, “out of the box thinking” leader and an independent thinker with a collaborative and inclusive management style. The successful candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal and trust building skills, with the ability to build and support collaborative teams, as well as foster strong relationships with the Town, provincial ministries, development community, local businesses, social service agencies and the rest of the stakeholders within the community.

You are a proven, creative, agile, confident, community oriented and engaging leader and a strategic thinker, with strong team and relationship building skills, who has demonstrated success as an accomplished leader within the public library management system or a similar environment. Your exceptional interpersonal skills have earned you a reputation for building a trustworthy, positive, congenial work culture, as well as developing, inspiring and empowering strong management teams and staff.

Having completed your post graduate degree in Library Science or a related discipline, you also have a minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible management experience, including a public library/ similar environment.
